Senior IBMi Application Developer

SRA Staffing is excited to be sourcing a Senior IBMi Application Developer for our trusted Financial Services client with head offices in Winnipeg, MB.

 Location: Hybrid | On-site – 2 days
 Flexible Work Model: The first preference is hybrid on-site, and applicants will be ranked accordingly. If remote, you must be available for:
 Initial 2-week onboarding visit (expenses covered)
 2-3 in-office visits per year for team-building, meetings, and events

Role Overview

As a Senior IBMi Application Developer, you will leverage your deep expertise in the IBMi operating system and development environment to design, build, and maintain custom IBMi applications. You will also be key in application support, process improvement, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

 Development & Support:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise-level IBMi applications.
  • Provide 50% application support to users, management, and business partners.
  • Recommend and implement software enhancements and technical improvements.

 Collaboration & Documentation:

  • Work closely with managers, developers, business analysts, and business units.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation for clarity and consistency.
  • Participate in technical architecture discussions and strategic planning.

 Knowledge Sharing & Leadership:

  • Share expertise and mentor team members in a professional, supportive environment.
  • Foster a culture of learning and development.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively, adapting to project needs.

What You Bring

Education & Experience:

 Degree or diploma in Computer Science or related field
 5+ years of IBMi/AS400 development (RPGLE, DB2)
Experience in web or Windows app development & modernization
Familiarity with GIT, SQL, RDi (Rational Developer for i), Visual Studio (an asset)

Skills & Abilities:

Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Excellent communication and stakeholder interaction skills
Understanding of Lean/Agile principles
Strong time management and ability to prioritize tasks
Ability to work both independently and within a team

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have):

Experience in the group insurance industry
